Watching doing

"I could do that,"

I say to my kids, as we watch the Olympics. It works for every sport and every category because, no, I can't do it how the Olympians are doing it. They are WORLD-CLASS athletes, after all.

"I could make that,"

I say to the YouTube show as they create the most amazing cakes mankind has ever seen. I don't like to make cakes, but I'm sure I could do it, right?

"I'd make that better,"

I say to nobody at all, as I look at an Instagram Story of a newly remodeled historic home. Of course, I've never remodeled a home by myself and only own a few tools, but I'm sure I could do it better.

It's not that I couldn't do any of these things, but I'm certainly NOT doing any of them viewing alone. Creation necessitates ACTION. You learn by actually doing things, not just by watching.

If you want to do something, stop watching and start doing it. Then get better at it. So much more fun that way.
